His father worked at the Columbia Steel Corporation. Flores was employed at the Warman Steel Casting Company in Huntington Park. He married Guadalupe Garcia Flores and was inducted into the Army in January 1943 serving overseas with Company E, 32nd Armored Regiment, 3rd Armored Division.  One of his brothers served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army while one of his sisters was a student at Torrance High School at the time.

The family received a telegram from the War Department in April 1945 that Corporal (Technician 5th Grade) Nestor Flores Jr., age 22, was killed in action in the European Theater of Operations.  In 1949, Nestor Flores Jr. was disinterred from his grave in Holland and reburied at the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, California. His widow Guadalupe passed away at age 95 in 2015 and is buried in the same plot.
