Names on the Wall Project

Honoring Our Torrance Heroes

The Names on the Wall Project gathers, preserves and shares the too-short life story of each of the brave 152 Torrance military personnel, listed below, who gave their lives in service to our country during wartime. The Torrance Historical Society wants to ensure that their stories and legacies are remembered and honored by future generations.

This project was initiated by the late Jerry Ronan, World War II veteran and longtime Torrance teacher and resident. Since Jerry’s passing, two dedicated volunteers, Kurt Weideman and Dennis Piotrowski, have taken the lead and have been assisted by many others.

Click on the Names below to learn more about these local heroes, all of whom are enshrined on the Torrance Veterans Memorial Wall located near City Hall.  This is a work in progress and not all of the Names have information yet. If you are a family member to anyone listed below, or have additional information to share about their life, please Contact Us through this link.

Memorial Day Reading of the Names on the Wall

The Torrance Historical Society conducts a Memorial Day Remembrance for Torrance service personnel who gave their lives in U. S. military actions with the reading of the 152 Names on the Torrance Veterans Memorial Wall located at the corner of Torrance Boulevard and Maple Avenue. These names listed above include war losses from World War I to those in the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. Check our Event page each year for exact details about the event.
